Army Reserve Direct Commissioning Program

Post  Aflatoon on Wed Dec 22, 2010 6:35 am

I have been offered a chance to obtain a direct commission from a local Army Recruiter in the Reserves. I am told that they have to put together a board to see if I will be accepted for the program after I've passed a physical.

He specified that if accepted, I actually pin on the bars BEFORE going to any training. He has given specific examples of officers he has known who have taken similiar paths, in spite of not knowing anything about the Army upon first wearing the rank.

I am a former 5 year enlisted Marine, current State Trooper with a B.A. in Business. I'm 37 and need a waiver.

My questions are:

1. Is anyone even remotely familiar with this process/program?
2. What specialty shall I request from the list he's given me of openings? Any suggestions? Very few combat arms positions, but MP, Chemical, Ordnace, Quartermaster, and "OFFICER GENERALIST" (whatever that means) are some of the common spots available.
3. Any pitfalls to look out for?

Any help would be much appreciated.
